Artists Description: Life moves on unaware that rare events are just out of sight. A green flash of the sun is an event that is seen by a few and is often thought to be a "myth" or "urban legend" by those that have never seen one. Green flashes of the sun do exist and can be seen when atmospheric conditions are conducive. Two green flashes occuring at the same moment in time can occur when the atmosphere is laminar and calm. This rare double green flash was captured by green flash photographer Oscar G Medina on February 15, 2010 from a hill overlooking the community of Pacific Beach, California. The upper green flash is at the junction of two layers of air that have different temperatures. The light band below the setting sun is the Pacific Ocean. The road in the center of the photograph is "Garnet Avenue". Pacific Beach is a community within the San Diego, California metro area. All of the people driving up and down Garnet missed the double green flash of the sun. Their view was either blocked by trees and buildings or they were facing the wrong direction.
